US biodiesel leaks illegally into Europe
US biodiesel producers have found an alternative way to place their products on the European market. The country first exports the biodiesel to another country, mainly Canada, Mexico, Singapore and Turkey and subsequently exports the fuel to Europe.
This was said by Raffaello Garofalo, secretary general of the European Biodiesel Board (EBB) at a biofuel congress in Brussels.
To prevent uneven competition, the European Union has introduced an import restructio in March against the heavily subsidised B19 biodiesel from the US.
Garafalo did not say how much US biodiesel enters the EU because the EBB is currently in discussion to solve the issue.
