Because of the continuing drought and the associated crop damage, German farmers want compensation.

The German farmers therefore intensified calls for around 1 billion euros ($ 1.17 billion) in special aid.

€ 1.4 million damage in Germany

According to Reuters, the German government however, said it would wait for an August harvest report before making a decision.

German farming association DBV president Joachim Rukwied said that drought has caused € 1.4 million of damage to grains crops alone this year.

No money for Dutch farmers

In the neighbouring country of the Netherlands, the agriculture minister said that farmers will not be financially compensated for the crop damage , as a result of the heat wave. The minister is looking at the possibility of relaxing some of the regulations for the Dutch farmers, such as the period that farmers can add manure to the land and the use of rotation crops as animal feed ingredients. Also in other European countries like Latvia, the continuing heat is damaging the crop and ruining harvests.

The drought is not only hitting European farmers. In Australia, farmers are desperately searching for animal feed for their animals.
