Moldova grain producers hold on to their stocks

Agricultural producers in Moldova don’t hurry up to make contracts for delivery of grain for State Reserves of Moldova, expecting to make a better price later.

Representatives of Establishment of Ministry of Agriculture and Food (MAF)
industry said that as a result of conducted auctions for state reserves 57 trade
agencies sold only 11.800 tonnes of grain (39.3% from planned).

According to the data of MAF, in October contracts were signed for the
purchase of 14.000 tonnes milling wheat more. However, the deliveries have not
been started yet. Experts said that there was a reserved interest in auctions
for purchasing milling wheat for the state reserves due to the price rise on
foreign markets. According to them some trade agencies have already bought wheat
at price higher than government.

According to governmental data the republic of Moldova needs 345.000 tonnes of milling wheat.
Total volume of grain stocks (harvest 2005-2006) is 426.000 tonnes.
