Monsanto to construct seed plant in Ukraine

US company, Monsanto, intends to build a see production plant in Ukraine, according to local media reports, referring to the country’s Ministry of Agriculture and Food.

At the moment company specialists are selecting the region where the project will be located.

“Monsanto has already developed the project and are now determining the location for the construction – the region where the plant will be built,” stated the Ministry’s report.

With the launch of the plant Monsanto aims to increase the volume of demand for its production on the Ukrainian market. So far, the company supplies small quantities of production to Ukraine from Hungary and Romania – in the amount of several dozen tonnes only, according to estimations by the local analysts.

The representatives of the Ministry stated that it recently held a working meeting with a delegation from Monsanto and the agreement on the construction of the plant was approved. However, the planned investment and capacity of the project is still unknown.

At the same time, according to the information of the Ukraine Agriculture Ministry, plans for the construction of the seed plant have also been announced by Syngenta. But so far the company has not developed an investment project.
