Indonesian Feed Mill Association (IFMA) predicts this year’s corn imports will fall by 51.6% compared to last year, which is only 1.5 million tonnes. While total imports of corn last year was 3.1 million tonnes.

The chairman of IFMA, Sudirman FX said, “This year, imports of corn for animal feed will fall by 1.6 million tonnes. This year is different from last year, because local corn production is quite a lot. Up until May this year, imports of corn were 460 thousand tonnes, while for the same period last year corn imports were 1.4 million tonnes.”
On the other hand, Indonesia’s ministry of agriculture has targeted this year’s corn imports at only 1 million tonnes. The reason, according to Udoro Kasih Anggoro – general director of food crops of Indonesia’s ministry of agriculture, this year’s national corn production is estimated at 18.8 million tonnes.
