The period that we are currently going through is particularly challenging because of the high prices of raw materials but also their availability. The use of less common raw materials, available and potentially less expensive, can be an alternative to traditional protein and energy sources. However, challenges are as numerous as the variety of raw materials that are available in the market. Adisseo proposed a 3-step vision on the topic.
1. Pierre-Andre Geraert, director Innovation Marketing at Adisseo, gave us an insightful introduction with a quick overview of global animal feed market – trade from West to East, he also mentioned that soybean meal and its importance, with 3 countries contributing to 80% of the worldwide production – United States, Brazil and Argentina. He also touched on the effects of the war, sunflower and rapeseed being drastically affected by the Russia/ Ukraine war and said the impact of the war will definitely affect the availability of cereals. Furthermore, in his introduction he also talked about feed variability – anticipating, monitoring and controlling this aspect.
