Dutch goat milk producers win Better Feeding contest

The goat milk production farm of the Van der Pas-Ebbers family in the Dutch town of Heeswijk-Dinther has become winner of this year’s Better Feeding Award.

According to the jury, the site focuses on animal welfare, animal health, environment and cost efficiency. Goats receive individual meals through a feed machine, developed by the owner himself. For an introduction film, click here (in Dutch).

The contest, organised by Dutch animal nutrition cooperative Cehave Landbouwbelang, was held to offer 28 poultry, dairy and livestock producers the opportunity to show progress in animal feeding. A jury considered all submissions and was looking for innovative, sustainable and society friendly enterprises.

The pig farm of the Van Bouwel family in the Belgian town of Tielen has become runner-up in. According to the jury, the production site introduces on-farm sustainability in a very innovative way, click here to see the production film (in Dutch).

The third prize was won by the broiler producing family Van Zeeland from the Dutch town of Gemert. An internet poll revealed the public vote, which went to broiler farm of the Vloet family from the Dutch town of Wanroij, which won 15% of the votes. On-line films were watched over 100,000 times.
