Serbia: SojaProtein opens new non-GMO facility

SojaProtein, a Serbian soya concentrate specialist, has officially opened its new state-of-the-art production facility in Becej, Serbia.

The plant, with production capacity for 70,000 Mt, will specialise in non-GMO soy protein concentrates for the EU market. A major part will be available for animal feed applications, the rest for the pharmaceutical, infant and meat processing industries.

The plant will manufacture specialised soy concentrates (SPC) for the animal feed industry will also be distributed by Barentz Agri Nutrition Division. The SojaProtein soy concentrates are low in ANFs and soluble carbohydrates yet rich in lysine with excellent digestibility. This makes them particularly suitable for inclusion in young animal feeds such as calf milk replacers, piglet feeds and in aqua culture.

Pieter van den Berg, managing director Barentz Agri Nutrition Division, said, “We will put a strong focus on direct delivery to customers via our network of pan-European sales and logistical centres. The non-GMO origin and the low iron content makes these soy concentrates unique and it will bring great solutions to our customers.”

SojaProtein is a member of the Victoria Group which has invested 30 million Euro in the plant as part of its strategy to maintain its leading position in the sector and supply the anticipated growth in the market. The plant is audited by SGS and GMP+ certified.

About SojaProtein
SojaProtein has been processing soybeans in Bečej since 1983. It was privatised ten years ago when its majority share holder became the Victoria Group. It has enjoyed rapid and sustained growth since. SojaProtein is currently listed on the Belgrade Stock Exchange. The company’s main activity is crushing of soybeans and as a result produces its own white flakes, which are used as a raw material for its integrated water/alcohol extraction plant during processing of SPC. Current storage capacity of the factory is 100,000 MT of soybeans. The local soybean harvest is estimated at around 450,000 MT per year and the company processes around 250,000 MT of soybean, which is around 50% of the total soybean harvest in Serbia.
