Managing rise in feed ingredient prices with NSP enzymes

At the moment there are many enzymes available on the feed market. Of these enzymes a large part are fibre degrading or NSP enzymes and they are becoming more and more the norm in animal feeds.

They range from mono-component to multi-component enzyme products in either liquid or powder form. AveMix XG 10 is a new generation dual enzyme concept that contains high levels of xylanase and β-glucanase. Both activities work synergistically to break down most prevalent soluble and insoluble NSP fibers in raw materials.

NSP enzymes will not only act on degrading fibres but will also indirectly influence the digestion of other nutrients, like proteins. These nutrients will be released from the fibre matrix after which they can be easier digested and absorbed in the animal. This mode of action of NSP enzymes ensures huge benefits for the nutritionist and feed producer.

With the inclusion of NSP enzymes on top of the normal feed formulation, animal performances and uniformity will be improved. With a better feed conversion animal production will be more efficient, reducing costs. However the real power of NSP enzymes is in the flexibility they provide in feed formulation. In practice, this means that the nutritionist has more flexibility of choice of raw materials and can incorporate higher percentages of more economic raw materials and by-products. In combination with a well-designed enzyme concept the nutritionist can obtain cheaper formulations and equal or better animal performances.

With increasing costs and fluctuations of availability of raw material quantities, feed producing companies are indeed looking more and more for that flexibility in raw material choice and increased usage of less common grains and by-products, without negative influence on animal performance parameters.

Feed reformulation and their economic benefits largely depends on the local cost and composition of raw materials. The use of by-products will depend on their nutritional value, fibre content and other limitations. A good knowledge of the raw materials at hand is needed to successfully reformulate for better value.

Note: AveMix XG 10 can be used in all monogastric animals. With the European registration for AveMix XG 10 for turkeys and pigs EFSA approved and underway, AveMix XG 10 is already available for all other poultry species and piglets in the European Union under EU reg. nr. 4a9. Aveve Biochem
