Cargill stops production at Franklin feed plant

12-05-2009 | |

Cargill announced that it will cease operations at its US based Franklin, CT animal feed production facility as of August 1, 2009. The facility has sixteen full-time employees.

According to company officials, Cargill’s existing dairy and farm store customers in Connecticut and New England will receive service via Cargill’s Salem and Albany, N.Y. feed facilities with the same level of support and service to which they are accustomed.

"This was a very difficult decision for us," said Robert Sheffer, regional general manager for Cargill Animal Nutrition’s business in the Northeast U.S. "Unfortunately, the challenges facing our business given today’s economic environment necessitated this move." "Our Franklin employees have worked hard to make the business viable and provide strong support for the community," insisted Sheffer. "We fully recognize and appreciate their un-wavering commitment and years of service."

To the extent possible, Cargill will seek to place interested, qualified employees in other positions within the company.
