US steps up corn production
The United States has produced more corn in 2016, compared to the year before. This is according to new statistics from the National Corn Growers Association (NCGA).
In the NGGA report ‘world of corn’, it is stated that US corn growers produced over 15 billion bushels in 2016. Corn is still the biggest crop in the US, followed by soybeans, hay and wheat. The US is also the biggest corn producer in the world. China is second.
Most corn for animal feed
The corn production volume of last year is a huge improvement of the 13.6 billion in 2015. Most of the corn was used for animal feed (38.4%), followed by fuel ethanol (28.9%), export (15.3%), food, seed, industrial (9.8%) and DDGS (7.6%). The 15.1 billion bushels came from the 94.0 million acres planted. Of the planted area, 86.7 million acres were harvested. The total corn crop value in 2016 was 51.5 billion US dollars. This corresponds with an average price per bushel of 3.40 US dollars. Most corn is produced in the states Iowa and Illinois.
