Beer disposal fed to UK cows

Glasgow restaurant, bar and brewery West has found a novel way of disposing of its leftover grain – they feed it to cows at a nearby farm.

The spend grain at the small Glasgow brewery is ideal fodder for cattle at
the Foreside Farm in Ayrshire. West owner Petra Wetzel said: “We’re extremely
environmentally conscious at West and are constantly seeking to recycle and
re-use whenever possible, so, when the opportunity arose, we jumped at the
chance to supply all our spent grain to Foreside Farm for free.”

Although
cattle at Foreside Farm may not receive quite the same luxury treatment as some
Japanese Wagyu cattle, who get fed wine and massaged, they are
reportedly enjoying their new feed. “I suppose you could call it a win/win/win
scenario. We benefit, by reducing our waste, Foreside Farm owner Michael
Whiteford benefits, by receiving free feed.
