Indian Dairy board invests in feed plant
The National Dairy Development Board in India will provide Rs 500 million (€ 7.8 million) as technical and financial support for a 500 tonnes per day cattle feed plant in Banaskantha in the northeast of India. The plant is expandable to 100 tpd bypass protein plant and 25 tpd mineral mixture plant.
Chairman of National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) Amrita Patel said, "This is an important step as 70 per cent of the cost of milk production is contributed by feed. This new facility should be used to produce a variety of feeds, for instance, for buffalo, cow, calf among others."
She also explained the concept of Ration Balancing software developed by NDDB, which can be used by local persons trained in the village.
This will help in advising farmers on the most economic use of the ingredients they are feeding.
Apart from providing technical and financial support for the cattle feed plant NDDB is also providing technical and financial support of Rs 120 crore (€ 18.8 million) for expansion of Banas Dairy plant (Banas III).
After expansion, the plant’s production capacity will increase from one million litres per day to 2.1 million litres per day.
