Pennsylvanian animal feed silo collapses

29-09-2011 | |

A massive cement silo (built in 1992) fell onto a metal sile next to it at the Hutter Dairy Farm in Mount Pleaseant Township in Westmoreland County.

Emergency crews tried to pull the 600 tonne silo off the other one with a chain but the chain broke resulting in 630 tonnes of animal feed spilling out.

The owner said his nephew felt the silo shift while unloading the feed,

“It’s like a disaster, because all of the feed in there is for the winter,” said neighbor Steve Viazanko. “The ground-up corn, that’s what they feed with in the winter."

No injuries were reported.
