VIV Asia 2015 through the lens - UPDATED

More booths, more surface, more exhibitors and more visitors. The biennial animal husbandry trade show VIV Asia 2015, spread out over seven halls in Bangkok, Thailand, breaks records.

The world of agriculture is meeting again in Bangkok, Thailand.
Mid-March traditionally is the time for VIV Asia. The 2015 edition is bigger than ever.

To go straight to the booth of Pig Progress, World Poultry, AllAboutFeed and Dairy Global (Hall 107, H074) to pick up free magazine copies and a free giant bag.
Hall 107 is dominated by the orange of Big Dutchman.
Ruwan Berculo, VNU project manager, announced that this year’s edition has 874 exhibitors, of which 178 are new. China tops the list with 140 exhibitors, followed by Thailand (84), the Netherlands (77) and France and the US (72 each). The show is expected to attract 30,000 professionals.
Belgian feeding equipment company Roxell highlighted its improved BluHox 120 feed hopper, destined for pigs between 20 and 120 kg. New is an extra water nipple that allows the pigs to mix to create their own wet feed.
Belgian feeding equipment company Roxell also showed its improved feeding pan for broilers, which avoids the birds to actually jump into the pan – better for hygiene.
Danish equipment company Skiold is showing its improved Maximat feeder, being oval in shape, encouraging the oldest feed to go down first. This aerial view of the feeder appears to show rings – these in fact are vertical sides, designed to make the feed flow down easier.

AllAboutFeed is promoting itself twice this VIV Asia. On Wednesday, editor Emmy Koeleman moderated the Pet Health & Nutrition Conference; on Thursday AllAboutFeed will be once more teaming up with Biomin for its ‘Mycotoxins in Focus’ programme.
Pig Progress is co-sponsor of the Pork Production Summit. A morning session informed delegates about how to reduce antibiotics in pig production; a more general afternoon session zoomed in on trends and scientific solutions in Asia.
The third speaker at the Pork Production Conference was Dr Jason Shelton, Provimi/Cargill. He discussed trends in animal nutrition – which trends are relevant when making feed? He touched on three, being food quality, animal welfare and the environment.
Feed additives company Biomin organised its second Mycotoxins in Focus event, co-sponsored by AllAboutFeed and Pig Progress. The event attracted a full house.
Speakers included Dr Shu Guan from Biomin Singapore, who explained the latest findings from the company’s Mycotoxin Survey, which was also offered to the delegates in a special edition of AllAboutFeed.
Dr Pariwat Poolperm from Kasetsart University, Thailand, explained the economic impact of mycotoxins on pig farms.
Prof Dr Charles Rangga Tabbu from Universitas Gadjah Mada, Indonesia, spoke on common pathological lesions of mycotoxicosis in poultry.
