For the Ukraine and Slovakia, the risk profile has been adjusted from ‘medium’ to ‘low’. This means that maize originating from these countries has to be analysed less frequently, because the risk of the presence of Aflatoxin B1 is considered to be low.

This is the result of the evaluation of the available analysis results of Aflatoxin B1 in maize GMP+ International, together with other accepted scheme holders. The changed protocol takes effect on October 23rd 2017.

What can you do?

To be able to reclassify countries, it is important that as many GMP+ participants as possible upload their analysis results to the GMP+ Monitoring database and share it with the GMP+ community. When uploading this information, please make sure that the origin of the maize is entered correctly and that the levels of Aflatoxin detected are entered with the correct unit (mg/kg). Analysing monitoring results is a source of inspiration for GMP+ International to emphasise potential risks in its communication and to develop FSP products that make the individual companies and the feed industry as a whole more resilient, to better face the daily challenges involved with supplying safe feed for safe food.

Previous changes to risk profiles

Since September 2017, the risk profiles of countries of origin have changed as follows:

  • Canada, Croatia, the Ukraine, Slovakia and the Czech Republic: From low to medium
  • Brazil: High to medium
  • Serbia: Medium to high
