A preview of the EuroTier 2021 innovations
Due to Covid-19, EuroTier was cancelled in November and it will now be held virtually in February 2021. Here we provide an preview of a number of feed innovations that will be launched during this online event.
AUTOMATIC MILK FEEDING SYSTEM
By Aco Funki
As sows become increasingly prolific, Danish pig equipment company Aco Funki is launching an automatic milk feeding system for distribution of fresh milk to piglets. The philosophy behind it is simple: when the piglets have constant access to milk, this results in a higher weight at weaning and faster growth after weaning, and thus achieves a higher survival rate. The system mixes milk powder with hot water, and then adds cold water to get the mixture to the right temperature. The company is also showcasing a rubber heat mat for piglets and a straw rack.
NEW ENCAPSULATED FEED SUPPLEMENT
By Bewital Agri
German specialty feed producer Bewital Agri introduces an encapsulated combination product based on lauric acid, monoglycerides of short-chain fatty acids and flavourings (plant extracts and essential oils). By combining these active substances, gram-positive bacteria such as streptococci and clostridia can be restrained and thus antibiotic treatment can be reduced while improving animal health, especially in piglet rearing. An in vitro study showed that 0.1% of the product is sufficient to reduce the germ growth of Streptococcus suis and Clostridium perfringens by 50%.
CALF MONITORING SYSTEM
By Futuro Farming GmbH
The Animal Welfare Award 2021 was presented for the Calf Monitoring System from Futuro Farming GmbH in Regensburg, Germany. The system is a precise, energy-saving and non-invasive sensor system that provides early disease detection in calves. A passive infrared sensor is used to observe the calf’s behavioural pattern and the data is promptly evaluated using AI. This information is made available to the farmer directly via an app and an online platform, thus enabling the calf’s health to be monitored continuously.
ELECTRONIC REFRACTOMETER SENSOR
By Holm & Laue GmbH & Co. KG
The Brix-TS Sensor is an electronic refractometer sensor that has been integrated into the mixing tank of the Calf Expert automatic calf feeder, where it measures and monitors the dry substance content of the mixed calf milk. In the event of deviations, the system automatically corrects the concentration in the feeder. If whole milk is used, a consistent dry substance concentration can be ensured in the feeder milk by adding powdered milk if necessary. With the Brix-TS Sensor, Holm & Laue is launching a technical solution that can guarantee continuously consistent calf feed.
STRAW CHOPPER FOR SELFLINE FEED MIXERS
Siloking has introduced a straw chopper version for the SelfLine 300+, 500+ and 1000+ feeder models to ensure fast cutting of larger quantities of straw in the ration. This family-run company, which is based in Bavaria, Germany, produces innovative feeding technology that is distributed to over 50 countries. The product range includes trailed, self-propelled and electrically driven feed mixers from 5 to 32m ³ for livestock farms, stationary mixing and dosing systems up to 80m ³ for feed centres and biogas plants, as well as silage extraction and distribution machines.
INCREASE FEED EFFICIENCY
By Berg + Schmidt
Berg + Schmidt present feed ingredients that have a positive effect on the immune system and the performance of all animal species, from aquaculture and poultry to pigs and cattle. BergaFat increases milk yield through optimised nutrient intake and is free of the trans fatty acids that are formed during the hydrogenation process. BergaFat powders are naturally rumen-stable and reach the small intestine unchanged, where they are easily digested. LipoVital supports intestinal health and resistance and lecithin is an essential nutrient for metabolism and the immune system.
SUCKLING PIGLET FEEDING SYSTEM
With the new Schauer Babyfeed suckling piglet feeding system, it’s possible to feed milk replacers as well as pre-starters. Emptying the trough manually once a day is labour-intensive.The Baby suckling piglet feeding system can automate this process. Among other things, the focus here is on good trough cleaning using the patented blow-out function. For this purpose, each feeding trough is blown out with short, successive blasts of compressed air. The new feeding station is made of durable, glass fibre-reinforced plastic, which can be glued directly to the PVC pen profile.
